After serving in India on a short-term mission trip, God put a stirring in Jane’s heart for abandoned and orphaned girls. Shortly after having their second child, Anna, Jane had a desire to adopt two little Indian girls. This was not what Tony was expecting to hear since keeping up with their two children, Josiah and Anna, is a full time job. Feeling unsure of caring for two more children, Tony replied, "Why don’t we start an orphanage instead?" This question would change their lives as well as the lives of many people in India.

Tony went to India to speak to nationals about a joint effort to create an orphanage there. In 2005 they rented a home in India and began the long-term process of caring for orphans. When asked by a national pastor, what they should call the orphanage, Tony suggested Jane’s House, because she has a heart full of compassion for neglected children.
